Jeanne - Disguised to Move
Artworks and Prints
What Passed as Neutral
To enter, the body learns the codes of permission. What appears neutral may be a disguise — visible enough to pass, invisible enough to be allowed through.

Where the Map Ends
Beyond the boundaries of the known lies a space without certainty. Flight crosses the remnants of the map, evoking the possibility — and risk — of entering a world not yet defined.

The Weight of Disguise
A figure folds inward as botanical forms cross and envelop the body. Concealment becomes a physical condition: the quiet weight of what must remain unseen in order to gain access and continue moving.

Unpermitted
Some spaces are defined by who is allowed to enter them. Botanical forms break through the codes of masculine dress, turning restriction into passage.
What begins as a boundary becomes a threshold.

Between Identities
One identity comes forward as another recedes. Between what is shown and what remains beneath, the figure occupies an uncertain space — neither erased nor fully revealed.

Insistence
What was contained keeps growing. Leaf by leaf, presence returns — persistent, repeated, impossible to erase completely.

Currents that carried her
She looks toward a horizon with no fixed edge. The sea holds departure and arrival together, carrying a life beyond the limits once drawn around it.

WHAT
THE VOYAGE
CARRIED
The ship was an instrument of exploration: carrying people, specimens and knowledge across oceans. Its hull evokes the material structure behind the voyage — the part that history records, while many of those who worked within it remain less visible.

Carried
What is carried is more than an object. The bag becomes a vessel for specimens, notes, knowledge and memory — the material traces of a journey, and of the labour that made that journey possible.

Unchartered
Navigation gives direction without guaranteeing arrival. Fragments of route and instrument evokemovement through uncertain territory — a journey recorded geographically even when individual presence is less securely preserved.

What the Wind keeps
Once released, a seed no longer belongs entirely to where it began. Carried beyond its source, it holds the possibility of another place, another season, another beginning.

Before the Name
Before classification comes encounter: a form observed before it is fixed by language. The flower moves between living presence and specimen, asking what changes when nature enters a system of names.

Breadfruit
One leaf opens onto a larger history of plants inmovement. In the botanical world through which Jeanne Barret travelled, plants were observed, collected, named and carried between distant shores.

Baretia
A name once offered the possibility of botanical recognition. Baretia recalls the unstable relationship between discovery, naming and remembrance — and the histories that classification can preserve or overwrite.

Held in Memory
To preserve is also to transform. Held between living form and collected specimen, the plant occupies a space where observation becomes record, and presence becomes memory.

Where she stayed
After so much movement, there is land beneath her feet. The sea remains behind her, but she is no longer crossing it. Mauritius becomes not another passage, but the place where she stays.

The names we keep
Some names survive. Others dissolve at the edgesof the record. What remains is shaped as much by what was preserved as by what was allowed to disappear.

What she set in motion
The journey ends; its consequences do not. Objects, specimens and fragments gather as traces of knowledge carried across oceans and generations. What remains is not a single legacy, but a movement still unfolding.

Still Here
What remains is not always preserved as an object or record. Life continues through repetition, adaptation and renewal — present, changing, and still here.
